I have a passion for photography and a love of local history. My camera is my constant companion. Whilst clearing out my attic last summer I came across 100's of negatives and boxes of photos mainly from the 80's and wondered what to do with them.
There were local people in these photos who I realized had never seen them, I also had a wide range of photos recording the changing streetscapes of Carlow.
After much thought I decided to use Facebook as a way to share these. I set up the Old Carlow Photos group, uploaded my photos and invited people to add theirs. I am amazed at the success of the project, older people are revisiting their youth and younger people are gaining an invaluable insight into the lives of their parents and grandparents.
This photographic book documents life in Carlow town pre 1989 with emphasis on people and families. This book is set to be a 'must have' book for Christmas 2019 and beyond and is set to become an important part of social history. A major photographic exhibition launched the book on November 18th in the Cathedral Parish Centre to much acclaim.
These photographs have brought many people together sharing their memories not alone here in Carlow but around the world.
